Yesari was the door
On the duet with Sajjan that opened things up, and how I think about songwriting from the bass chair.
Yesari with Sajjan was the first time I had something I had written reach an audience that wasn't already mine. It surprised me — the song itself is small and quiet — but quiet seems to work right now.
I think about songwriting from where I stand, which is the back of the stage. Most of the songs I love best are built around what the bass and drums are doing while the singer holds back.
What I am writing now lives in that same register.
